The Foundation Inspection Card and Checklist applies only to jurisdictions in the State that do not have a building department.

Inspection Card

The inspection card includes areas for the date, inspector, and initial of the inspector for the following:

  • Site Address
  • Plan Approval Number
  • Open Hole Inspection
  • Footings
  • UFER/Concrete Incased Electrode
  • Stem Wall
  • Perimeter Drain (if required)
  • Damp Proofing
  • Foundation Void

Foundation Inspection Checklist

Things to do to be prepared for inspections:

  • Inspection payment and application/request page (cover sheet)
  • Prior to inspections always remember to be prepared:
    • Job address is conspicuously posted in a visible location
    • Permit and approved plans are on site and can be accessed by the inspector
    • Information on permit is correct
    • A safe and clear walking path is provided to the site and all formwork
  • List of items that may be inspected. (Note that this is only a general list and is not intended to address all possible conditions.)
    • Footings are constructed per the approved plans
    • Loose soil, mud, and water removed from the bottom of the footing.
    • Debris, water, and ice removed from spaces to be occupied by concrete
    • Steel reinforcement is properly spaced and is the correct grade
    • Splicing of reinforcement steel
    • Top of foundation walls project 6” or more above finished grade
    • Surface drainage away from foundation walls
    • Foundation walls thickness per approved plans
    • Depth of crawlspace within the building footprint adequate to provide beams and joists with their necessary above-grade clearances for decay resistance?
    • Stem walls
    • Support piers, support pads
    • Anchor bolts – cover, sizing, spacing, shear walls per structural plans
    • Crawlspace vents incorporated into foundation walls properly sized and spaced
    • Escape windows per approved plans
    • Concrete quality (strength, air entrained)
    • Waterproofing/Damp-proofing of foundation exterior walls
    • Ufer (concrete-encased grounding electrode)
  • General Information
    • Concrete should not be placed during freezing temperatures.
    • Hot-weather requirements. During hot weather, concrete should be handled and placed so proper attention is given to not allowing excessive concrete temperatures or water evaporation that could impair the concrete’s serviceability
