The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) is excited to announce that Tyler Jaeckel will serve as the new Director of the Division of Housing, starting October 7, 2025. Jaeckel joins DOLA with more than two decades of extensive experience in housing policy, development, and program implementation across local, state, and federal levels.
Most recently, he served as Chief of the Office of Federal Funds and Strategic Initiatives for Governor Jared Polis, overseeing housing programs and federal stimulus investments aimed at addressing homelessness, affordability, and workforce development.
“Tyler brings a unique mix of legal, policy, and hands-on housing experience that will make an immediate impact at DOLA. His leadership in creating innovative housing solutions demonstrates that he knows how to turn bold ideas into real results for communities,” said Maria De Cambra, DOLA’s Executive Director. “We’re excited to welcome him to lead the Division of Housing and advance our mission of creating housing for every Colorado budget.”
Jaeckel has worked in housing throughout his career, first working on housing and zoning issues in the New York City Mayor’s Office, engaging in housing policy as a part of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, and leading teams working on housing issues across the country. In returning to Colorado, Jaeckel led the launch of Denver’s Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative, the city’s largest supportive housing program, providing stable housing and intensive supportive services for more than 350 individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. He also helped in the creation of Denver’s first affordable housing fund, helping to secure critical financing for new affordable housing developments across the city. Through his work with the Harvard Kennedy School’s Government Performance Lab, the Office of State Planning and Budgeting, and the Bell Policy Center, Jaeckel has led housing policy initiatives that combine innovative funding strategies, data-driven program design, and cross-sector collaboration.
This experience equips Jaeckel to strengthen DOLA’s capacity to deliver impactful housing programs statewide, expand access to stable and affordable homes, and support communities in addressing the root causes of homelessness and housing instability. By leveraging his expertise in program implementation, financing, and policy development, Jaeckel will help ensure Colorado continues to make housing more affordable for every budget and advance the state’s broader economic and social goals.
A Colorado native, Jaeckel holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he worked at the NYU Furman Center on affordable housing research and policy, an M.P.P. from Harvard Kennedy School, and a B.A. from Northwestern University. He also serves on the Board of Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver, further reflecting his commitment to strengthening housing and community development in the state.
“Stable housing people can afford is the foundation for thriving families and strong communities. Throughout my career, I’ve worked to expand housing opportunities and build partnerships that deliver lasting solutions,” said Jaeckel. “As the new Director of the Division of Housing, I look forward to building on the work of past leaders and collaborating with communities across the state to ensure every Coloradan has a secure and stable place to call home.”
Jaeckel succeeds Alison George, who has led the Division of Housing since 2015 and will retire this fall.
