DENVER – Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015 –  The Department of Local Affairs wants to remind everyone that the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) card makes a perfect gift for people who enjoy participating in outdoor activities like snow shoeing, hiking, skiing, snow mobiling, or just exploring. The CORSAR card enrollment costs just $3 for one-year, and $12 for five-years, and can be purchased at over 300 retailers in the state. Or, you can purchase them online at:

This is not an insurance card – search and rescue teams will always come to your aid. The CORSAR card provides funding support to county sheriffs’ departments statewide to ensure that these teams have the equipment and training to help lost and/or injured people.

Last year, over 1,240 search and rescue missions were conducted in Colorado. Dedicated volunteer teams work throughout the state year-round to aid people who are in distress or danger and the cost of each  mission is often in the thousands of dollars. By purchasing a CORSAR card you are contributing to Colorado’s Search and Rescue fund, which will reimburse these teams for the costs they incur to provide help.

Have a safe holiday season.
