Lifelong Colorado Initiative

Staying in our own communities as we age improves lives, strengthens families, and saves money. Older Coloradans leave only when barriers to remain become too great – restricting mobility, accelerating isolation, even threatening health and safety.

Not too long from now, one in four Coloradans will be 60 or older. Creative approaches to help people of all ages stay and thrive in their communities are emerging throughout Colorado. Lifelong Colorado is a bottom-up and inclusive strategy to support livable communities for people of all ages.

As of 2018, 24 Colorado communities were either in AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly Communities or participating in the “Boomer Bond” Initiative through the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). We want to add at least 100 more communities to that list in five years (by 2023).

With this ambitious plan, Colorado is the third state to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities!
